10.1" Dell Streak Pro with Android Honeycomb to hit stores in June

Dell’s 10.1″, dual-core tablet running Android Honeycomb is due to arrive in June, according to SlashGear. More details on the Dell tablet has surfaced, thanks to a leaked photo of the upcoming device.
The slate will be powered by a 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 T20 processor, and feature dual cameras (a 2 megapixel front camera and a 5 megapixel rear one) and a 1280 x 800 pixel display. Other specifications include Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, as well as a choice of 16, 32 or 64 GB of flash memory, as well as a SDHC card reader.
To stand out amongst all the other Honeycomb tablets with similar specs that are slated to arrive this summer, the Streak Pro will be available in black, pink, blue or red  and have a brushed aluminum back panel. Accessories like an in-car charger, a “productivity” dock and a folding cover with an integrated keyboard will be included in-box. Of course, the Dell will come pre-loaded with Dell’s Stage 2.0 software — it wouldn’t be a Dell unless it has bloatware. Pricing has not been announced but should be forthcoming as launch date nears.

Dell today unveiled a 7-inch version of its Streak Tablet, a nice piece of hardware that utilizes 4G technology - well, T-Mobile’s version of 4G technology. The device, as expected, touts some of the must-haves that all of the players in the tablet space are touting these days: strong processors, widgets and apps, gaming capabilities, rear- and front-facing cameras for video chatting, as well as social networking apps and widgets. As impressive as some of that might be, Dell offered a quick - very quick - peek at a 10-inch tablet that’s in the works and will be targeted at business customers. The company was correct to note that tablets are still something that CIOs are weighing, which is one of the reasons that Research in Motion continues to play up the enterprise-readiness when it launches its Playbook tablet later this year.
Still, the announcements by Dell today show that the company has recognized that consumers have grown beyond the “Dude, I’m getting a Dell” days and have specific needs for their lifestyles. Gen Ys, for example, are all social and mobility while gamers are all about performance.
The company introduced an HD, 3D 17-inch laptop that carries its XPS brand, which also touts high performance audio. And it enhanced its desktop line, offering Intel’s latest Core i5 and i7 processors.
For gamers, the company’s Alienware brand unveiled its first 3D-capable laptop with an HD display. It features new, second-gen Intel quad-core processors with Intel’s Turbo Boost 2.0 and hyperthreading technology for added performance that gamers want.
The company also unveiled one other product - a Venue smartphone running the Android OS. It has a sleek form factor that makes it attractive and worth pausing to look at twice. But during the presentation, the company left out one important detail - the carrier partner. Asked about it during a Q&A, the company said that the Venue is being sold unlocked without a carrier partner.
That’s a tough road to go down - something that Google learned the hard way with the Nexus One phone that it wanted to sell on its own last year. Without the carrier subsidies, these unlocked phones usually carry higher price tags that consumers don’t like. Details on pricing for the Streak tablet and the Venue weren’t available today, which is unfortunate because it could change the way consumers feel about these products  - no matter how cool they might look.

Dell unviels some new devices in CES 2011

The new Alienware M17x 3D boasts full HD 3D and an advanced wireless connectivity for real-time gaming with no lag time. It starts at $1,499 and is slated to be available on January 10.

Dell announced plans to launch a Mobility Store where customers can buy activated smartphones and notebooks, including non-Dell products. Dell will deliver devices in 24 hours, it says.

The flip-screen Dell Inspiron Duo first appeared a few months back, but it got another moment in the spotlight at the company's CES press conference.

The Dell Venue runs Android 2.2; has full Flash 10.1 implementation; sports a 4.1-inch AMOLED screen with Gorilla Glass, and has an 8-megapixel camera. The phone will be sold unlocked on Dell.com, though Dell thinks a T-Mobile version will be available as well.

The Dell Streak has gotten more affordable, but the lower price comes with a wait time.
Dell has dropped the price of the carbon black 16GB Streak to $399.99. That price doesn’t require the signing of a binding agreement with a wireless provider, but the cheaper Streaks won’t start shipping until January 10. Think you can wait that long?

Report: Android 2.2-based Dell Venue launching in Korea this month

A Dell Venue smartphone is shipping somewhere this month, but it’s not the Pro and it’s not the United States.
Still sporting a 4.1-inch AMOLED touch screen, what separates the Venue from the Venue Pro is the absence of slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The operating system has also changed with Dell swapping out Windows Phone 7 for Android 2.2.
The Dell Venue is launching in South Korea this month with the help of local carrier KT. The price point is set at a whopping 700,000 KRW ($606). A release timeline for other countries has not been revealed yet.

After popping up in Best Buy stores in October, the Dell Streak tablet is now significantly cheaper.
The Streak was previously available for $299.99 with a two-year service contract with AT&T. Now buyers will only have to fork over $99.99 and their signatures to a two-year agreement. The unlocked, unsubsidized price remains at $499.99.
Why the price drop? Best Buy hasn’t revealed anything. It could be the holidays. Or maybe the device just isn’t that popular (many Android-based tablets haven’t been so far), and the mega-retailer wants to clear some stock before the New Year and some promised new slate PC debuts at CES 2011.

Furthermore, Dell has added a new color option: cherry red. However, if you want the $299.99 price, that requires a two-year contract with AT&T. Otherwise, freedom for this rosy Dell Streak costs $549.99.
Unfortunately, you can’t get your hands on any of these immediately as they won’t ship until December 8. But you can get your pre-orders in now.

 However, there are some quality issues with the hardware and I think it could have been much better. I just saw this morning that the 16GB Dell Venue Pro became available for purchase from Dell directly so I just ordered one for myself for $499.99. You can get the 8GB one for $50 less, but without the ability to expand the memory there is no way I would recommend that model. BTW, I found this Dell coupon code for 10% off that knocked the $50 off my 16GB model anyway, FMQLSTFF34SVV5. Keep in mind this coupon expires after 2,000 uses, but I was able to use it just a few minutes ago. I am particularly interested in testing out the camera, QWERTY keyboard, and 4.1 inch OLED display. I held the Dell Venue Pro for a few minutes a couple months ago and like the feel of the hardware. I think it may be a bit unbalanced with the slide-up display, but I will let you all know as soon as it arrives. It is supposed to ship out by the 9th of December so I may have it in hand the 13th.
With new activation you can get the 16GB model for $149.99 and the 8GB one for $99.99, compared to the $449.99 and $499.99 without new activation. Keep in mind this will only work via 3G data on T-Mobile USA and not with AT&T. This is only the 2nd option T-Mobile customers have while AT&T customers currently have three choices.

Last week it was revealed that Dell would be working on some new tablets beyond the highly publicized 5" Streak. More information has just come out about the 7" version, dubbed the Dell Looking Glass.
Last week I talked about how many companies seemed to be expanding their tablet repertoires, from Courier to the iPad, Dell to HP. In fact, since then it's come out that not only is HP working on other tablets, but their new tablets could be based on either Android or Linux - that last bit is more unusual news, as Linux devices in the mainstream are hard to find.

Now we have some more information about the Streak 7 Looking Glass. It's not actually much, but Engadget is reporting that it will be out in around November and sport Android 2.1 on a Tegra 2 processor. There will also be an apparent focus on mobile tv viewing, possibly with the help of AT&T U-verse - but that's far from certain. The 7" screen will feature a 800x480 resolution, and there will be a camera, 4GB RAM, and 4GB flash memory (w/SDHC slot).

The tablet picture looks more interesting by the day - can't wait for years end, when the variety of options out there will seem neverending... more choices are never a bad thing.

 

IDF 2010: Dell Inspiron Duo combines tablet and laptop, runs Windows 7 Home Premium

Dell finally seems to be breaking free — at least a little bit — from the beige design box it’s drawn itself in over the years. After debuting the Streak, it’s now showing off a hybrid tablet and laptop system that it’s calling the Inspiron Duo and was unveiled today at the Intel Developer Forum.
The 10-inch screens serves as both the display for the typical notebook setup as well as a detachable tablet (via a swiveling hinge). It contains Intel’s dual-core Atom N550 processor and runs Windows 7 Home Premium instead of Android. Considering Dell envisions the Inspiron Duo serving two masters — entertainment via the tablet and productivity via the physical keyboard — Windows makes sense, though it remains to be seen if performance will be an issue for the device.
Dell is promising the Inspiron Duo will be available later this year, though no pricing has been revealed. It’s clearly gunning for one of the iPad’s biggest weaknesses — the difficulties using the Apple tablet as a productivity tool without an included physical keyboard — by providing the best of both worlds. But will that make it a more attractive alternative than the Android tablets that are on the way?
