CES 2011: HP Envy 17 gaming laptop gets Sandy Bridge CPUs, AMD's new Mobility Radeon 6850M graphics

HP’s Envy 13 notebook might not have been a runaway success, but its bigger brother has just been refreshed in time for CES. The Envy 17 gaming laptop now will feature the latest Intel processors and AMD mobile graphics, along with an HP feature that’s new to this model.
In addition to offering Intel’s new Sandy Bridge CPUs (including the Core i7-2630QM CPU),

the Envy 17 is one of the first laptops to be announced that’s using AMD’s new Mobility Radeon HD 6000 series graphics — in particular, the Radeon HD 6850M card. It can also hold up to 6GB of RAM and 2TB of hard drive storage.

Having introduced its CoolSense technology in its dm3 ultra-portable, HP has now brought it to a big, power-hungry laptop that could use it. CoolSense combines hardware (specifically, vents that are strategically placed to maximize airflow) and software to automatically adjust cooling depending on how you’re using the computer.
Unfortunately, HP hasn’t disclosed pricing or availability for the updated Envy 17, but it sounds like it’s worth the wait to see how well this benchmarks with the new parts.
